The initiative, promoted by the insular Institution together with APEDECA and the collaboration of the local City Council, proposes a day of traditional games, Canarian culture and activities to recover the collective memory of the municipality
The activity, under the motto 'Remembering our past', will take place in the Plaza de Vallehermoso, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Cabildo of La Gomera, in collaboration with the Vallehermoso City Council and APEDECA, organizes, through the 'La Gomera Acompaña' program, a special day of revitalization on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, aimed at promoting coexistence, active participation and the exchange of experiences among the elderly in the municipality. The activity, under the motto 'Remembering our past', will take place in the Plaza de Vallehermoso, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The president of the Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, recalled that this initiative is framed in the development of the 'La Gomera Acompaña' program, "which continues to promote actions aimed at promoting the social participation of older people, combating situations of isolation and generating spaces in which to share knowledge and experiences."
The mayor of Vallehermoso, Emiliano Coello, highlighted the importance of promoting this type of initiatives that "value the fundamental role of our elders as guardians of the memory, traditions and identity of our municipality." Likewise, he pointed out that "creating spaces for meeting and participation allows us to share experiences, recover memories and strengthen the links between generations, recognizing the importance of those who have built the daily history of Vallehermoso."
The mayor also valued the collaboration between institutions and entities to develop activities that promote active aging and the social participation of older people, "providing proposals that encourage coexistence and allow us to continue building community from our traditions and our neighborhoods."
For her part, the insular Minister of Social Policy, Rosa Elena García, pointed out that "the proposal proposes a morning to remember, play and create together, through accessible activities that value memory, popular culture and shared experiences." In this way, the day seeks to generate a space for meeting and coexistence that encourages participation and contributes to recognizing the role of older people as transmitters of knowledge, experiences and traditions.
The programming will begin with a dynamic of traditional games, in which participants will be able to recover forms of entertainment typical of other generations. The activity will include proposals such as cards, board games, skill tests, riddles and word games, promoting a relaxed atmosphere of participation and socialization.
The day will continue with 'Pasapalabra Canario', an adaptation of the well-known television format focused on the culture of the Canary Islands and, especially, La Gomera. Through the game, issues related to popular expressions, gastronomy, traditions, places, music, nature and other elements of the cultural heritage of the Archipelago will be addressed.
As a closing event, the activity 'Our Vallehermoso: Let's see who remembers!' will be held, conceived as a collective proposal to recover memories linked to the municipality. Participants will be able to contribute places, parties, foods, jobs, songs, games, characters or anecdotes that are part of their personal memory. These contributions will be used to build a large mural of memories of Vallehermoso, organized by themes and conceived as a collective testimony of the daily history of the municipality.
