The San Sebastián City Council announces new measures in relation to Covid-19

Among them is the closure of parks, children's areas, municipal facilities, as well as sports facilities.

The City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera announced this Friday, March 13, a new set of measures aimed at reducing potential risk situations that could facilitate the transmission of the coronavirus “Covid-19” in the municipality. All this, after the announcement by the Government of the Canary Islands to suspend classes for the next fourteen days.

Thus, the mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, reported that, during that same period, social centers, public parks such as Torre del Conde and children's areas in the municipality will remain closed. This will also be joined by the library service, the Youth Center and all sports facilities.

In this sense, Reyes pointed out that "our priority is to stop the expansion and follow the recommendations established at the national and regional level, which is why I appeal to the responsibility and collaboration of all neighbors since we are not in a vacation period, but in an extraordinary situation that forces us to go out on the streets as little as possible and to avoid contagion situations that could affect the most vulnerable groups, the elderly and people with chronic pathologies."

Regarding the Iballa municipal daycare center, and in line with the order of the Government of the Canary Islands, it will be closed during the same period, as well as all the premises owned by the City Council that are used by the different social and sports groups.

Along the same lines is the recommendation to “avoid crowds”, emphasizing that leisure venues, bars and restaurants must guarantee a minimum distance between their customers, recommending reducing or spacing out tables on the terraces and inside. Urban transport will maintain normality, frequencies or other aspects will not vary, and the only space that will remain open is the municipal market.

Likewise, the mayor called on citizens to use telematic channels or the telephone in case they had to carry out procedures or queries, limiting access to the City Hall facility exclusively to the municipal registry. The objective is that physical presence is only the “essential” and thus avoid crowds. In this sense, it is recalled that the City Council's general telephone number is 922141072, while the secretary's telephone number is 922141354 and the multipurpose building's telephone number is 922870236.

Along with this, and for the same period that the order of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands lasts, all cultural, recreational, sports or leisure activities that depend on the City Council will be suspended.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the Department of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands maintains a free telephone line activated (900 112 061), from which a Nursing team, under the coordination of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), will respond to requests for information from citizens on prevention measures, possibilities of contagion and false concepts related to the virus.
