The Hermigua City Council brings together 50 people registered for the new free traditional folklore classes

El Ayuntamiento de Hermigua reúne a 50 personas inscritas en las nuevas clases gratuitas de folclore tradicional

The Hermigua City Council has registered great acceptance in the call for free traditional folklore classes, with a total of 50 people registered in this municipal initiative aimed at preserving, recovering and transmitting the popular traditions of the municipality.

Classes will begin next Monday, November 9 and will be taught every Monday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Antiguo Casino de Hermigua Sociocultural Center. The training will be developed with the collaboration of folklore professional José Ángel Febles, who will impart knowledge about different manifestations of traditional Canarian culture, including drumming, chácaras, dance and romance.

Prior to the start of classes, the City Council has called all registered people to an information meeting that will take place next Monday the 26th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Antiguo Casino Sociocultural Center itself. This meeting will allow the groups to be organized and coordinate the necessary aspects for the development of the activity.

The mayor of Hermigua, Solveida Clemente, highlights the importance of promoting initiatives that contribute to preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the municipality and guaranteeing that traditions remain alive among new generations. In this sense, the launch of these classes is an opportunity to bring folklore closer to people of different ages, favoring the transmission of knowledge and customs from adults to children, with all its essence.

For her part, the Councilor for Culture, Laura Escuela, points out that this project responds to the interest in the municipality to resume classes that were paralyzed during the pandemic. The councilor emphasizes that it is an activity whose recovery has been demanded and in which the Department has insisted to make its return possible, responding to the population's desire to relearn and practice traditional expressions of folklore.

The initiative is part of the municipal commitment to the conservation and dissemination of the hallmarks of Hermigua, facilitating free access to training that contributes to keeping the cultural legacy alive and strengthening ties between generations.

Likewise, the mayor has announced that local crafts will also have their space within the municipal cultural programming, with the expectation of launching classes starting next year. To this end, the City Council is already contacting artisans from Hermigua, with the aim of finding out their availability and studying the possibilities of collaboration to transmit their knowledge and traditional crafts.

With these initiatives, the Hermigua City Council continues to work on the promotion of popular culture, the recognition of its bearers and the transmission of a heritage that is part of the history and identity of the municipality.
