Vallehermoso Lustral Festivals postponed

Emiliano Coello announces before the Plenary that they will be resumed when the health, social and economic situation allows it.

The Bishopric informs that, if possible, a religious celebration could be held on July 16

The Vallehermoso 2020 Lustral Festivals, which should have been held during the months of June and July, have been postponed until the health, social and economic situation allows it. This was announced by Emiliano Coello, mayor of the municipality, in the last Plenary Session held last Friday, who also announced that all the municipality's festivities are suspended while the State of Alarm lasts and the health crisis determines it.

Coello regrets the decision – coordinated with the Bishopric and the Festival Commission – “knowing the months of work and effort behind it on the part of the coordinating team, technicians, neighbors and agents involved, but above all there is safety and health, and at this time the Lustral Festivals would not have the highlight that they should have with the health and social distancing measures in force,” explains the president.

The mayor is cautious when predicting when they can be held "because there is a lot of uncertainty regarding the future, starting with the vaccine, so we must be responsible and not advance anything until the situation allows us to face the Lustral Festivals with guarantees for all the residents and visitors of our municipality."

Coello is aware that on a social and economic level the postponement of the Lustral Festivals will be a hard blow for local companies, but he appeals for understanding "and that is why, in the midst of this crisis that we are beginning to suffer, we will encourage support for the business fabric of the municipality to the extent we can, trying to alleviate the consequences that this harsh, but thoughtful and consensual decision has."

For its part, from the Bishopric, maximum responsible for the coordination of religious events, it is explained that the current health emergency situation in which our country finds itself due to the COVID-19 virus, as well as the measures required for its containment and resolution, "lead us to the fact that, once consulted with both the Vallehermoso City Council and the local priest, David Socas, we are informed of the suspension of the Lustral Festivals in honor of Our Lady of Carmen scheduled for the months of June and July.”

In this sense, they advance that if the provisions of the health authorities allowed some type of religious celebration on July 16, it would be held in the Carmen hermitage, although it would be reported at the time given the current uncertainty surrounding all public events.

Along with this postponement, the Plenary Session was informed of the holiday calendar for 2021, which will have June 24 and July 23 as non-working days in the municipality.
