Ramos (ASG) insists on promoting negotiations  between Spain and Morocco over the Canary Islands
The deputy spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group maintains that international law protects the interests of the Islands
The deputy spokesperson for the Gomera Socialist Group Parliamentary Group (ASG), Jesús Ramos, insisted today, the 11th, on promoting negotiations between Spain and the Kingdom of Morocco to avoid generating tension in a jurisdictional conflict of international law such as the possible impact of the Canary Islands waters due to the delimitation of Morocco's maritime border. Furthermore, the deputy insisted on sending a message of calm, while praising the management of the Canary Islands Executive in the negotiations in this regard.
“This has its way, and we are protected by international law, but we must be attentive and maintain that vigilance with rigor,” said Ramos. "Let us remember that although the UN in its Convention on the Law of the Sea has established the possibility of delimiting the waters in 200 miles of economic zone and 350 miles of continental shelf, this does not mean that the unilateral act of the Kingdom of Morocco is valid," he stated.
"For everything there is a legal process that must be followed and it is clear that in matters of overlapping maritime zones between countries, an agreement must be sought, but waters that are directly under the sovereignty of another state can never be invaded," he asserted.
In the opinion of the Gomero deputy, now is the time for dialogue, so that rational solutions can be reached between the two countries and we reach out to the Moroccans so that they reflect and that no more fait accompli policies are produced.
The deputy spokesperson for ASG in the regional Chamber explained that he is concerned about other actions of the Moroccan Government, such as the case of the waters of the Sahara, "since it seems that the Kingdom of Morocco wants to make them its own." Likewise, he valued the work carried out by the Government of the Canary Islands and insisted that "we must remain vigilant and monitor this situation."
