Alejandro García presents a motion on the creation of a rate for power lines

Last Monday, the councilor of the Vallehermoso City Council registered a motion to be included in the next ordinary plenary session on March 18.
The motion includes the preparation of a tax ordinance that charges for the transportation of power lines in the municipality. “Power lines are obliged to pay a municipal tax as jurisprudence has shown, which confirms the possibility of collecting this tax according to article 20 of the Local Treasury Law,” says García Vera.
For the councilor, the meaning of the motion is that the electricity companies assume the cost of territorial responsibility and land use. "We understand that electric companies provide a service, but they are also benefiting from the use of public land and that therefore, a tax ordinance must be developed that charges based on the kilometers of the electric line."
It should be remembered that high voltage lines can pose a fire risk, as has happened recently with adverse weather conditions. In the case of Vallehermoso, the fire of April 26, 2008 was taken to court, without what happened has yet been clarified. Hence, a shared and preventive responsibility for the care of the environment by electricity companies is important.
García Vera concludes that they will continue to propose measures that benefit the municipality. "In this case we are betting on a measure that focuses on charging electric companies for the use of our land and that benefits our municipal coffers to be able to provide better services to the citizens of Vallehermoso."
