Alejandro García defends a line of direct and exceptional aid for self-employed workers and small businesses in Vallehermoso

The spokesman for the Mixed Group in the Vallehermoso City Council, Alejandro García Vera, presented this Monday a motion for the municipal government to carry out a line of direct and exceptional aid for the self-employed and small businesses in the municipality.

"The health crisis caused by Covid-19 is not only a public health problem but also a severe setback for the global economy, with direct consequences in the Canary Islands and in our municipality," says García Vera. "We are concerned about the impact that this crisis may have on the productive fabric of Vallehermoso, affecting employment and the living conditions of many families," continues the spokesperson.

The motion proposes financial aid for the self-employed and small and medium-sized companies with a maximum of up to ten workers and that have a main contribution that is justified by the economic losses of 75% of turnover, derived from the declaration of the State of Alarm. In addition, it is proposed that the beneficiaries may receive additional contributions for having had to completely cease their activity due to the restrictions on economic activities of Royal Decree 463/2020 of March 14 and complementary contributions for the number of employees hired full-time or their proportional part, reaching a maximum of ten workers including the employer.

Likewise, the motion registered by the Joint Group proposes that, given the exceptional situation caused by Covid-19, and in order to carry out this aid, both the Strategic Subsidy Plan for 2020 and the municipal budget be modified, so that this line of help for small businesses and the self-employed can be realistically allocated in the budget. "We cannot maintain budgets for 2020 that were prepared at the end of last year thinking about another scenario very different from the current one," says the councilor.

"We must take care of the jobs that exist in our municipality and try to get ahead so that the post-confinement stage is as least traumatic as possible for Vallehermoso's economy," concludes García Vera.
